If you've been searching for a Toronto-area tattoo shop that truly excels at both custom tattoo design and cover-up work, you already know how rare that combination is. Most studios lean one way or the other. At Wild Crane Tattoos in Markham, we've built our entire practice around doing both — and doing them exceptionally well.
What Makes a Great Custom Tattoo Studio?
A custom tattoo is not just a design picked off a flash sheet. It starts with your story — a meaningful symbol, a memory, a piece of art you've been imagining for years — and ends with ink that feels uniquely yours. Getting there requires an artist who listens, draws, revises, and collaborates.
At Wild Crane, our lead artist Ciel (Quan Li) trained under master tattoo artist Yue Heng of 岳阳新刺客, one of China's most respected tattoo educators. She holds a degree in Illustration from Sheridan College, which means her custom designs aren't just technically precise — they're visually intelligent.
Whether you're looking for delicate fine-line botanical work, bold traditional or neo-traditional pieces, East Asian ink-wash style tattoos, or geometric and blackwork compositions — every design is drawn from scratch, specifically for you.
Cover-Up Tattoos: A Specialist Skill, Not a Patch Job
Cover-up tattoos are one of the most technically demanding services in the industry. A poorly executed cover-up doesn't fix a regret — it creates a new one. Good cover-up artists understand colour theory, skin saturation, and how to use negative space and saturation to make old ink disappear into a new composition.
Wild Crane Tattoos accepts cover-up consultations for faded or blurry old tattoos that need a fresh layer of intention, names or text you've outgrown, amateur or scratched ink that needs professional correction, and partial cover-ups that work with existing linework rather than against it.
During your consultation, Ciel will assess the existing ink — its age, density, and colours — and design a custom piece built specifically to conceal or transform it. There's no template for this; every cover-up is its own problem to solve.
Why Markham? (And Why It's Worth the Drive from Toronto)
Wild Crane Tattoos is located at 19-3 Wootten Way N, Markham, Ontario — just minutes from Highway 407 and easily accessible from North York, Scarborough, Richmond Hill, and the broader GTA. Our studio is appointment-only, which means you get the artist's full, undivided attention, there's no walk-in chaos, and your design is prepared in advance.
